My quirky storytelling festival, in collaboration with actress, model and activist, Isabella Rossellini, held all the hallmarks of a cult concept. On the hottest day of the decade, families from all over Long Island came to join in a delicious mash-up of interactive storytelling, enchanting children's theatre, unusual live creatures, wild music and a host of creative workshops spread across @MAMAFarm, in Bellport, NY.
Here we are in the Meadow, Tent Village, Wild Woods & Picnic Area.
Kids really loved the interactive Mad Hatter's Tea Party, scary Red Riding Hood play in the deep dark woods, and real life Hansel & Gretel edible kid-size candy house!
Here's bright young thing @imagebymelissa as Alice giving advice to young fans.
We also had a Kids-Only Café, run by kids, no adults allowed! But we have no photos as the kids refused us entry!
Mable the Unicorn kept in an eye on the mayhem. Glitter guides were extremely busy. Unfortunately, the angora rabbits had to be evacuated due to over heating, but the bubble gum ice cream never ran out. The Quangle Wangle Awards were handed out to children who showed a true disregard for boring stories and instead wrote wild and wacky adventures from the heart.
We had an awesome day. Pitch perfect as they say.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit. And sadly, the annual festival faded away...but never say never, hey?! All we can do is believe. For as Henry Hall's song says:
If you go down to the woods today,
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down to the woods today,
You'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.
